Flee the FLU!!!So help me God or The media makes me sick

Let’s stop the hysteria for a moment and calmly look at these “facts”, shall we?

From the Washington Post we get this piece of “news” 4/25/9:

About 200 of the 2,700 students attending St. Francis Preparatory High School in the Queens borough of the city missed school earlier in the week due to fever, sore throats and other flu-like symptoms, prompting school officials to notify the health department.

Investigators interviewed more than 100 students and their family members. All had mild symptoms and none were hospitalized, but some family members had developed similar symptoms, indicating their illness had spread in the family, according to Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden.

A preliminary analysis of viral samples obtained from nose and throat swabs from nine affected students found that eight tested positive for influenza A. Because none matched the known H1 and H3 subtypes of human flu, they were considered “probable cases of swine flu,” Frieden said. The samples have been sent to the CDC for further analysis. Those results were expected on Sunday. If the tests come back positive, officials plan to ask that the school remain closed on Monday, Frieden said.

Let’s slow down, take a deep breath and break that down a bit. Let’s see the truth here and nothing but the truth,  so help me God.

“All had mild symptoms and none were hospitalized, but some family members had developed similar symptoms, indicating their illness had spread in the family,”

Does that sound like something to get hysterical about?

ALL had mild symptoms.

SOME family members got sick too…duh. NEWSFLASH : Illness spreads in families. Wow…let’s all be afraid, Be wary wary afwaid.

“Because none matched the known H1 and H3 subtypes of human flu, they were considered “probable cases of swine flu,”

Let’s consider that for a moment. Because they didn’t know what it was….they are calling it swine flu. Anyone see the problem with this? Logic alone says, if A does not equal B then A must be C….Only in a world with 3 variables.

“About 200 of the 2,700 students attending St. Francis Preparatory High School in the Queens borough of the city missed school earlier in the week due to fever, sore throats and other flu-like symptoms,”

That means 200 students were sick that had any of the above.

Hello???

A sore throat

OR a fever

OR a flu-like symptom.

Ever read the list of flu like symptoms? Everything from a tummy ache to a headache goes into that list. Look it up for yourself. In other words, 200 children felt sick. My god!! What is the world coming to? Run!! Flee the flu!!! It’s true, it’s after us, we’re all gonna…..

um have a sore throat!!!!

Or worse, a fever!!

O who can save us from this terrible nightmare!!!

????????????????????????????????????????????

“What is the usual rate of absences?”, would be the next calm question, followed quickly by “And how many of those usual absences were due to a sore throat, fever, or flu like symptoms?”

Ahem. Please. Calm down. I would advise anti-hysteria medication before I would advise anyone to get the swine flu vaccination.

I would also advise taking a large dose of your own discretion instead of letting the “news” media play with your head. Please remember this:  a very frightened group of people are very prone to follow those who promise to keep it “safe”.

Please, help end groupthink by using your own mind.
