unwrapping the Gift

c

For unto you a child is born

Unto you a son is given

.

.

Taken is this gift

By all humanity.

.

.

What have you done with the child?

What have you done with the precious son of  man?

.

.

Discarded it into poverty

           through economics and politics?

Dismembered it in the womb

           as inconvenient and unwelcome?

Starved it in its infancy

for the pleasure of your plenty?

Bullied it in schools

            as valueless or deformed?

Raped it of its innocence

            blinding its vision to beauty?

Battered its precious individuality

             into cultural conformity?

Chained it to ignorance

of its own talents and genius?

Compelled the theft of its life blood

through slavery to models of madness?

.

.

What you have done to the least of these you have done to me.

Humanity has not yet recognized the gift

For what it is.

.

.

Unto you a child is given,

The son of man.

Gloria In excelsis Deo
